Three Treasures Qigong

WELCOME

Three Treasures is the Qigong practice of Lindsay Trevarthen, based in the Ashbourne area of Derbyshire.

WHAT IS QIGONG?

Qigong (pronounced chee gung - sometimes spelled Chi Kung) is an ancient and powerful system of healing and energy medicine from China: it means ‘vital energy (Qi) cultivation (Gong)’.

It uses breathing techniques, gentle movement, and meditation to cleanse, strengthen, and circulate Qi. Qigong practice leads to better health and vitality and a tranquil state of mind: it will help accelerate healing, slow ageing, relieve stress and enhance learning.

Qi exercises fall into two main categories: Tai Chi and Qigong:

Tai Chi is a series of continuous, circular, slow, relaxed, smooth, flowing movements, which opens up the gates and meridian channels of Qi in the body and helps to relax muscles and ligaments and to regulate the circulation of blood.

Qigong helps generate, channel, conserve, store and direct Qi in the body for achieving optimum health. It is more than just movement exercises like Tai Chi and includes standing and sitting meditations, massage, therapeutic healing techniques, and other health and energy-building practices.

Generally both Tai Chi and Qigong exercises have been found helpful for people suffering with breathing difficulties, arthritis, depression, mild nervous disorders, high blood pressure, impotence, headaches and lower back problems. Exercises will balance the hormonal system, release toxins and strengthen the immune system. They also aid healing processes in the stomach, intestines, kidneys, liver and heart.

Qigong exercises are performed within the limits of the individual, leading to a gradual improvement in mobility, balance, co-ordination and concentration.

Qigong is non-competitive and easy to do. It is an holistic approach to optimum health of mind, body and spirit and is suitable for all age groups, abilities and levels of fitness.

ABOUT ME

I have been practising Qigong since 2002, qualifying as an instructor in February 2009. I run classes and workshops for adults and children of all abilities around Derbyshire and Staffordshire and was one of the principal tutors for the Fit as a Fiddle programme, which was co-ordinated by Age UK Derby & Derbyshire between 2008 and 2012.

I am the Qigong teacher at the Ashbourne Physiotherapy Centre, an approved Strictly No Falling (falls prevention) tutor and work on a regular basis within both the statutory and voluntary health and social care sectors.

In addition, I also offer private one-to-one sessions in qigong, meditation and therapeutic healing.
